Nice to know you've missed me while I've been away!
I just flew back home to Blighty this evening.
It turns out that Derren Brown happened to be sitting on the plane a few seats in front (FYI I wasn't travelling Fancy Class, he and his entourage were flying Scum Class with the rest of us).
Unlike on the flight over, I found myself actually hoping the plane wouldn't crash.
Not for the obvious reasons (there would be less fun/flirting/blog posts if I died) but because, if the plane did crash, I wouldn't get mentioned on the news 'cos Derren'd get all the attention.
Is it wrong to want to be the most famous person on board?

In 2004 Derren was reported to the police for using hypnosis to rape a researcher at Bristol University back in 1997. The trauma took years to eat it's way out of her subconscious and she suffered terribly. Unfortunately by 2004 there was no forensic evidence left so the police could not take action. Despite being asked repeatedly and nicely for an apology Derren showed no remorse. He was even given the opportunity to make an anonymous apology by ticking a box and returning the form in a stamped self addressed envelope. The woman made it clear that for any recovery an apology was necessary and that failure to apologise anonymously was equivalent to saying "I couldn't give a **** what I have done to you or your life". The woman, a Dr. of Philosophy in Psychology also approached Derren’s friend Lara Jordan but Derren was happy to hide behind Lara. The woman is still trying to recover. It is an insight into the true character of Derren Brown.

It doesn't work like that. If you're a performer, you want people to see past all that. The last thing you want to do is pull women solely because you can play a few tricks on them, so I downplay it all in real life. When I was starting out, years ago, I did occasionally use it to chat women up - but I don't think I knew what I was doing.
Did it work?
It's difficult to tell. If you think you're using some clever technique, all that happens is that you're more confident than normal. And confidence improves your pulling power. A guy called Ross Jeffries has done a lot of work on speed seduction - your readers should have a look at his stuff on the net. It's all about using language in a certain way to ensure women will want to have sex with you. It's tacky and horrible, but, more worryingly, I'm sure there's something in it.
